Contrary to the image that most of the media present, shooting is actually one of the safest recreational activities. This is probably attributable to the constant concern with safety that is shared by all sportsmen. Safety is not a complex matter. It only requires the knowledge of a few simple rules, coupled with the right attitude.

Fundamental Gun Safety Rules

	Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
	Always keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot.
	Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
Other Rules for Safe Gun Use and Storage
	Be sure the gun is safe to use.
	Know how to use the gun safely.
	Use only the correct ammunition for the gun.
	Know the target and what is beyond.
	Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate.
	Never use drugs or alcohol before or while shooting.
	Store guns so they are not accessable to unauthorized persons.
	Be aware that certain types of guns and many shooting activities require additional safety precautions.
